The Society
Kilkenny Photographic Society was founded in 1983 and has approximately 50 members. It is a forum for those interested in photography. In addition to the mission statement above we provide a showcase for the work of amateur photographers through exhibitions, talks and competitions.
The Membership
The most essential asset of Kilkenny Photographic Society are its members. We range in age from early 20’s to our oldest ‘Honorary Member’ who is 90+, from founder members to those who have joined this year, male and female. Some have a particular interest in Black & White, others Colour, there are a few who still prefer the chemical darkroom, others who prefer the studio and the less experienced who wish to experiment and develop their own particular aspect of photography.
In recent years many of our members have successfully applied for their licentiate from the Irish Photographic Federation. New members are welcome at any time.
Digital Photography has allowed our members to become more creative and each member approaches it in his or her own particular style. With cameras, software and accessories evolving almost daily we are all constantly learning. To this end, each member is actively encouraged to share their experience within the group. We have added a discussion forum to our website which should help with the exchange of information, tips and techniques.
The ethos of the society is one of non-judgemental encouragement, where each member can feel safe to share his or her experience of image-making, use and care of equipment, film, chemicals, digital equipment, storage and in general pushing the boundaries with new ideas through trial and error.
